Shall We Dance? ~ Happy ChooseDay!

“When we acknowledge the right of mystery to intercept and direct us, we acknowledge the larger issue that life is a spiritual dance and that our unseen partner has steps to teach us if we will allow ourselves to be led. The next time you are restless, remind yourself it is the universe asking ‘Shall we dance?” ~ Julia Cameron

After a ridiculous month of stress and anxiety

Big decisions to make.

Paths unexpectedly changing course.

And exams on top of all of that.

It’s been a rollercoaster month.

But this past weekend I got some much-needed time out

Between studying and decision-making

In the form of my baby girl nieces

Emma, 5 and Kate, 3.

They came to spend the afternoon and night with me.

What a delightful time we had.

Forgetting about the pressures of grown-up life.

For 24 hours I was a kid again.

Making jelly.

Eating ice-cream.

Playing in the park.

Hiding and seeking.

Running around.

Playing imaginary games.

Drawing pictures.

And finally snuggling up at night

Exhausted but soul-filled

Watching a movie together.

The next day we went out to the park again.

It was a beautiful sunny Sunday.

My 5-year-old niece in-between playing

Stops and says to me out of the blue

“Let’s lie on the grass and look up at the sky.”

“We can make pictures out of the clouds.”

Bless her heart.

So that’s what the three of us did.

We found a nice spot on the grass.

We lay back and watched the few clouds that were in the sky float by.

Making pictures in our minds.

Sharing what we saw out aloud.

Laughing.

Breathing.

Stopping for those few precious moments.

I love looking at the world through the eyes of my baby girl nieces.

They constantly remind me

To see the simple yet exquisite beauty that is all around.

They remind me to take time out.

They remind me that the universe does, in fact, know what it’s doing

And where it is guiding you.

Even when

You yourself are not quite sure where you are going.

And best of all

It’s free for the taking!

~ Life is so full of beautiful…. Take a few minutes to notice it every day. Happy ChooseDay Everyone! ~

~ Just one more day and my exams will be over. Training and everything Aconcagua will be moving full steam ahead thereafter! This weekend we’ll finally be heading back out to the mountain and next week you can look forward to some beautiful views of Cape Town as seen from Table Mountain as we train. We are off to explore Table Mountain’s best kept secret again, one of my favourite, favourite hikes…! ~

“Watch the sunrise at least once a year, put a lot of marshmallows in your hot chocolate, lie on your back and look at the stars, never buy a coffee table you can’t put your feet on, never pass up a chance to jump on a trampoline, don’t overlook life’s small joys while searching for the big ones.” – H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Life gets busy.

We forget the simple pleasures.

And life begins to run away with us.

Yes, a beautiful and simple reminder!

I am currently in the thick of exams for my Psych Honours, experiencing stress like I have never experienced before, so I am currently in hiding as I chase my longest, biggest dream yet. My face tucked deeply in the middle of piles of notes, research papers and text books, I have almost forgotten what the outside world looks like.  I’ll be resurfacing again next week and from there on it will be full steam ahead with planning, shopping for last-minute things and most important of all, training for all things mountain so please do stay tuned!

~ Departure for Aconcagua is 74 Days, 22 Hours, 36 Minutes, 56 Seconds Away ~

~ Wishing you all a delightful ChooseDay where you remember to stop in the busyness of life and take a moment to enjoy the small things! ~
